Richard Mahar - FACE STUDY

My dad of all things was difficult to get a real smile out of. He was very serious yet goofy at the same time for the shoot. Most of my other tricks weren’t working too well so I had to adapt to my surroundings. That’s when I decided to see what would happen if he manually started moving his cheeks. Success! He opened up and gave me one of my favorite smiles from his session. I love this bottom photo so much because it’s care free and in the moment. For a brief second the viewer is lost in the pure joy of my fathers smile.

Doing some of my relaxing exercises!

Peter Mahar
I'm Peter Mahar, a professional wedding photographer based in Portland, Oregon. I grew up the youngest in crazy family of six--which was great, because I got to make my brothers and sisters laugh, and not-so-great, because I had to sit in the back of the van on the seat with the stupid bump in the cushion. I make pizza and talk a lot. I'm part Italian, so I use a lot of gestures (especially during photo shoots). I love deep conversations, a good fire, and a glass of wine. But most of all, I love Jesus, because He's great and I'm not.
