Brian & Christine | Downtown Portland Engagement session
What a delight to go back to my roots with a downtown Portland engagement session for Christine and Brian. They totally rocked it, and all the hovering rain (CLASSIC Portland for ya) held out and we had a great night out with the vibes, the lights, the GREEN, and the Sizzle Pie of it all.
Here are my go-to spots for nighttime engagement sessions in PDX, all walkable or short-drive from downtown:
Eastbank Esplanade
Riverside path with fantastic lighting and background!Pearl District streets & alleys
For industrial urban vibes: brick walls, murals, string lights from patios, and neon from bars/restaurants.Tom McCall Waterfront Park & Westside Waterfront
Burnside Bridge Area & nearby viewpoints
Classic deer sign in the background and river lights.Director Park, Pioneer Courthouse Square & Old Town Neon
Tips for Your Portland Engagement Session:
Timing: Blue hour (just after sunset) until dark for a fun mix of lighting!
Outfits: Layers and textures make it fun—but most importantly, wear stuff that’s YOU.
Planning: Pick locations that are special to you and your relationship. First date restaurant, favorite park!
Why an engagement session? Some photographers would say they’re essential for those perfect invitation photos, or for practice with your wedding photographer. Those are great features, but I get even more passionate about it when it’s something that’s actually an enjoyable evening out for you, celebrating your relationship and things that are important to you.
