I was so honored to get to photograph Ami & Sven’s wedding! The night before, they invited me to their Shabbat dinner at her parents’ home in Portland, which was the kind of dream backyard hosting that Peter and I dream of as parents of getting-married-kids someday. I loved seeing how excited these families were to be joining up, and how thoroughly, dancingly, everyone celebrated. Ami and Sven are both tender and silly with each other, and getting to be behind-the-scenes for the weekend was a delight. They so casually told me about their jobs they when I first met with them to talk about photography, but I came to find out Sven is a legit on-tour musician (Still Woozy), and Ami is a nurse and makes incredible art, including the art for his albums. This didn’t impact any bit of their down-to-earth relationship and partying!

I'm Peter Mahar, a professional wedding photographer based in Portland, Oregon. I grew up the youngest in crazy family of six--which was great, because I got to make my brothers and sisters laugh, and not-so-great, because I had to sit in the back of the van on the seat with the stupid bump in the cushion. I make pizza and talk a lot. I'm part Italian, so I use a lot of gestures (especially during photo shoots). I love deep conversations, a good fire, and a glass of wine. But most of all, I love Jesus, because He's great and I'm not.
