Why You Should Do An At-home Family Session

I want to direct less and observe more in my shoots.

I have been doing a deep-dive into all my past work looking for images to update my website with, and the photos that speak most to me are all the unstaged moments. They have the most life, the most character, and truly showcase who the people are. As we move more and more into the days of AI and Instagram filters, the days of fake are upon us. I want more of real! I want to document your family, a moment in time sorts. Nothing makes kids feel more safe and at home, then, well, their home. This is why I LOVE doing at-home sessions.

Their son not having any fun because I am trying to direct them too much.

HOW TO HAVE A SUCCESSFUL AT-HOME Session

Plan activities that you might normally do with your family. Things that include most people and then let me document.

PLAN TO STICK TOGETHER

Plan fun activities for you to do together, but plan to stay together. I will document the rest.

DOES THIS KIND OF SESSION INTEREST YOU?

Let me document a vignette of your family life right now before they get older! Contact me to see what my current session rates might be based on the story you want documented.

Peter Mahar
I'm Peter Mahar, a professional wedding photographer based in Portland, Oregon. I grew up the youngest in crazy family of six--which was great, because I got to make my brothers and sisters laugh, and not-so-great, because I had to sit in the back of the van on the seat with the stupid bump in the cushion. I make pizza and talk a lot. I'm part Italian, so I use a lot of gestures (especially during photo shoots). I love deep conversations, a good fire, and a glass of wine. But most of all, I love Jesus, because He's great and I'm not.
