Michael & Naomi | Cape Kiwanda Engagement Session

Cape Kiwanda Engagement Photos 26.jpg

I proposed to my Susannah just over 7 years ago on this very same sand dune in Pacific City. It was pouring rain all the way to the coast, but as soon as I turned the bend into the Pelican Brewing parking lot, the clouds literally parted and a rainbow busted out. The option to climb to the top of Cape Kiwanda opened back up for us and so we did. On the way up I remember how beautiful it was, and both of us (photographers at the time) said how great doing an engagement session there would be. Little did we know it would take 7 whole years to finally do one.

Michael and Naomi wanted to do something in the gorge or beach because they wanted to include the water somehow, but they also loved the hills of the gorge. I knew weather is always risky for the beach, but honestly rain or shine, the coast always is a remarkable place to shoot. I will say: never skip leg day and cardio at the gym though. I was sweating a little too much for comfort.

Peter Mahar
I'm Peter Mahar, a professional wedding photographer based in Portland, Oregon. I grew up the youngest in crazy family of six--which was great, because I got to make my brothers and sisters laugh, and not-so-great, because I had to sit in the back of the van on the seat with the stupid bump in the cushion. I make pizza and talk a lot. I'm part Italian, so I use a lot of gestures (especially during photo shoots). I love deep conversations, a good fire, and a glass of wine. But most of all, I love Jesus, because He's great and I'm not.
