Andrew + Jaclyn | Mt. Hood Timberline Wedding

What are the chances a May wedding would get snowed out?? This was a wild wedding day up at Mt. Hood, of a beautiful snowstorm outside, and so bitter-cold that we mostly shot indoor. I’m so thankful for my couples who roll with the punches!

I love photographing weddings at Timberline Lodge. It’s a stunning venue outside for photos, but also super fun to shoot inside. If the weather is crazy blizzardy all day for your wedding, no worries—there are lots of cozy fireplaces, and tons of huge windows to be able to watch the storm in safety.

How did you guys meet and why did you decide to get married? :

Andrew's version: We met online (as people do these days), and Jaclyn made the first move (because she had to, because it was on Bumble). Even though it took a few weeks for us to go out, we immediately connected. We've built a great life together - while we each have our own careers and hobbies, we mutually enjoy "doing life together", and even when we're doing our own thing, that's always made better by having the other with us. We're both already committed to building our life and home together, and it was time to codify that commitment.

Jaclyn's version: ‘Andrew and I met on a date at Coopers Hall urban winery in Portland, Oregon via the Bumble app in October 2020. This was during a welcomed break in COVID restrictions, and the start of a strong lasting love (sweaty palms and heart palpitations not from COVID).

‘We both like adventures and traveling, specifically diving deep into the culture of different countries (whether it is learning how to cultivate French Merlot in Bordeaux or St. Emilion, make authentic Argentinian empanadas with the perfect specific crimp, or watch some action at the Jets hockey in Winnipeg, Canada, or lucho libre “fight” in Mexico City). We love to cook together, trying new recipes and new ingredients, and love to take cooking classes in new countries.

‘We enjoy the outdoors, including glamping at Suttle lake, camping in Red Mountain California, kayaking in Kona Hawaii, skiing at Timberline (and also Government Camp, and Meadows) and Mt Bachelor in Oregon, and also Whistler, Canada.

‘I reiterate Andrew's statement that we are both committed to building a life together - we are best friends. Also we can rely on each other to celebrate our successes (and we want each other to succeed which is super important to both of us), and both can rely on each other during difficulties/trials.

Why did you choose your venue? :

Andrew's version: I have been a big skier for a while, and Jaclyn had done some skiing, but has gotten world’s better since we met. We’ve already spent time here as a couple, and along with my daughter Ada, ski every winter and spring here at Timberline. It made sense as a place that isn't just gorgeous, but also has a special connection to us as a family.

Jaclyn's version: I wanted somewhere iconic and grand (the building and outdoor scenery is beautiful), while also being approachable. Also, probably more important, it was an important location in our lives—we have spent many a winter and spring season on the mountain skiing.

What are three things you chose to do that you still think were a very good idea? :

Getting the middle photography package to capture all great moments from beginning to end of the event. :)

Peter Mahar
I'm Peter Mahar, a professional wedding photographer based in Portland, Oregon. I grew up the youngest in crazy family of six--which was great, because I got to make my brothers and sisters laugh, and not-so-great, because I had to sit in the back of the van on the seat with the stupid bump in the cushion. I make pizza and talk a lot. I'm part Italian, so I use a lot of gestures (especially during photo shoots). I love deep conversations, a good fire, and a glass of wine. But most of all, I love Jesus, because He's great and I'm not.
