Donny & Alexis | Playa del Carmen Wedding
We're still saying "HOLY COW" to each other about this wedding. Even if this whole shebang had been in a cafeteria in Oregon, it still would have been a dream wedding--but Alexis and Donny brought us all the way out to Cancun, Mexico to photograph their day! After a crazy trip--photographing a wedding in Bend, sleeping two hours, and then driving back to Portland to fly out that morning (leaving our almost-1-year-old for the first time ever overnight)! We got to relax for the night at the Mahekel Beach Resort in Playa del Carmen, and then had a blast all day long for their wedding the next morning.
Where to begin? Italian family with lots of crying and hugging, a couple who is just head-over-heels, butt-grabbingly in love with each other, free-flowing tequila shots, private, breezy barefoot beach ceremony, a surprise mariachi band, late-night tacos, crazy, CRAZY dancing, and, to top it all off, a churro cart to close out the night. We live for weddings like this. But even more, we live for couples like Alexis and Donny. They were all about enjoying each other, and having the best-time-ever with all the people they loved. They didn't get hung up on details, timelines, shot lists, or things being perfect. It was just an effortless, impossibly-fun day. As soon as they mentioned tequila shots and the churro cart at their engagement session, we were hooked.
The Mahekel Resort was stunning--right on the beach, tiny, icy-air conditioned huts, pools everywhere, and deliciously real Mexican food.
The wedding was held at the Blue Venado Beach Club--in the middle of the jungle, down several miles of bumpy dirt road. Michelle and Maju from LM Weddings had turned it into a stunning, , candle-lit wonderland. (We also have a huge wedding-planner crush on these two incredible ladies!) Even though the day wasn't focused on the details, the details were beautiful. Michelle and Maju kept the evening running smoothly, while still being relaxed and go-with-the-flow.
Such a dream-come-true honor to be a part of this day. This kind of wedding makes us feel all over again that we have the best job over.
