Arjun + Aayami | Sangeet Indian Wedding Tradition

All weekend, I was just thinking “When I grow up, I want to have an Indian wedding!”. Sadly, I will just have to make do with throwing a three-day celebration for my kids’ weddings. If you missed the Thursday Mehndi celebrations you can check out that blog post. But today I get to show you Arjun and Aayami’s Sangeet celebration. Everyone gets all fancy and comes for amazing food, and then special performances performed by aunts, uncles, friends, and littles. Because everyone has a dance that they rehearse, more families have excuses to get together throughout the weeks before the event. Even me, a stranger at the start on Thursday, started to really get to know everyone by Friday night and even more so by Saturday. How much more, both families coming together and having so much more time to bond and get to know one another. It truly makes for an epic Saturday night reception, which I can’t wait to share with you!

I arrived first to their getting-ready villa in Mt. Hood Resort, we had a short pocket of time to snag some quick photos of the two of them before heading to the main area for family formals.

The groom’s name is hidden in the henna design on her hands.

After an amazing dinner, crazy-good donuts and ice cream come to make things even sweeter.

I'm Peter Mahar, a professional wedding photographer based in Portland, Oregon. I grew up the youngest in crazy family of six--which was great, because I got to make my brothers and sisters laugh, and not-so-great, because I had to sit in the back of the van on the seat with the stupid bump in the cushion. I make pizza and talk a lot. I'm part Italian, so I use a lot of gestures (especially during photo shoots). I love deep conversations, a good fire, and a glass of wine. But most of all, I love Jesus, because He's great and I'm not.
